Bucknell University Bertrand Library
Front Entrance Patio
T-Ross Brothers Construction completed the Bertrand Library Front Entrance Patio project at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, delivering a comprehensive renovation of the university’s primary outdoor entrance area to the Bertrand Library.
The project was designed to improve the functionality, accessibility, appearance, and overall visitor experience of one of the campus’s most visible academic spaces while creating a more welcoming and durable outdoor environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The scope of work began with demolition and removal of the existing patio, retaining walls, sidewalks, and site fixtures surrounding the library entrance. The renovated entrance plaza was then reconstructed using a combination of bluestone, brick, and concrete paving systems designed to enhance both durability and visual character while complementing the surrounding campus architecture.
Additional improvements included new concrete sidewalks and pads, asphalt walkways, specialty paver systems, upgraded pedestrian circulation areas, and supporting site infrastructure improvements throughout the project area.
As part of the site enhancements, new bike shelter structures and bicycle parking facilities were installed to support increased bicycle use and improve accessibility for students and campus visitors. Electrical systems and site utility components were also integrated to support lighting and operational infrastructure throughout the renovated entrance plaza.
A unique aspect of the project involved repairs to an existing underground utility tunnel located beneath the patio area, requiring careful coordination to maintain the functionality of critical campus infrastructure while completing surface improvements above.
Campus construction projects require detailed scheduling and coordination to minimize disruption to daily university operations and academic activities. Construction activities were carefully sequenced to allow for substantial completion prior to the start of the academic year.
The completed entrance patio now provides Bucknell University with a modernized, accessible, and visually enhanced outdoor gathering space that improves pedestrian circulation, strengthens campus aesthetics, and supports long-term durability and functionality.
At T-Ross Brothers Construction, we are proud to help educational institutions create spaces that enhance campus life, improve accessibility, and support the long-term needs of students and communities.
