Project Overview
The Bertrand Library Front Entrance Patio project at Bucknell University involves the renovation and improvement of the primary outdoor entrance area to the university’s main library. The project is intended to enhance the functionality, appearance, and accessibility of the space while creating a welcoming outdoor environment for students, faculty, and campus visitors.
The work includes the demolition and removal of the existing patio, walls, and site fixtures, followed by construction of a new entrance patio utilizing a combination of bluestone, brick, and concrete paving systems. The project also includes installation of new bike shelters, improvements to walkways and site infrastructure, and integration of electrical components for lighting and site utilities.
Additional site improvements consist of new concrete sidewalks and pads, asphalt walkways, specialty paver systems, and related site work required to support the upgraded entrance plaza. The project also includes repairs to an existing underground utility tunnel located beneath the patio area to ensure the continued functionality of campus infrastructure.
The construction contract is structured as a single prime contract and requires coordination of demolition, concrete construction, site paving, electrical work, and installation of bike shelter structures. Construction activities are scheduled to begin in early summer, with the goal of achieving substantial completion before the start of the academic year to minimize disruption to campus operations.
Upon completion, the renovated patio will provide a durable, accessible, and visually improved entrance plaza that enhances pedestrian circulation, supports bicycle use through new bike parking facilities, and creates a more inviting gathering space at one of Bucknell University’s most prominent academic buildings.
